Heidi Smith

Biography

Heidi Smith is a classically trained vocalist with a deep love for jazz, blues and soul.

In her youth, Heidi found a passion for the stage. She began studying classical voice with Soprano Alexandra Babbel, then performed with the classical vocal ensemble, Candesca, and in multiple musical theatre and Opera Kelowna productions. Each of these were wonderful opportunities for her to learn technique and theory, develop her Mezzo-Soprano voice, and learn to hold her own onstage.

Though she loved the complexity of classical music and the experience of creating rich harmonies with an ensemble, Heidi always knew that she would return to the music that had captivated her since she was young -- jazz, blues, soul.

While attending university in Vancouver, Heidi found the UBC Jazz Cafe Club and began to perform regularly with other student musicians at their shows. The magic of performing live with other musicians who loved jazz renewed Heidi's passion for singing. Since returning to Kelowna, Heidi has been working hard to develop her vocal style and is now setting out to establish herself in the local music community.
